Background

Dr. Edward Ramirez, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. is a Board Certified specialist, who has been providing specialized infertility and gynecology care for the past two decades. His website, The Fertility & Gynecology Center - Monterey Bay IVF, covers all aspects of his practice and provides a wealth of information on all topics from menopause to infertility. He has a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a B.A. in Philosophy attained simultaneously from the University of California at Irvine. A graduate of the Stanford University School of Medicine, he did his specialty training in OB-GYN at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, the Pacific referral center for all the U.S. Armed Forces. He received sub-specialty training in advanced reproductive technologies at the world-renowned Pacific Fertility Center with Dr. Geoffrey Sher, one of the first pioneers of IVF in the United States. Dr. Sher had trained under Nobel Prize winner Dr. Robert Edwards and Dr. Patrick Steptoe, the originators of IVF.

Dr. Ramirez’s cultural background includes a Japanese and Mexican heritage, and he happens to be fluent in both languages. Deeply committed to courteous, responsive and personal care, he is pleased to provide all levels of infertility care including the highest most up-to-date advanced reproductive technology. He was the first in Monterey County to perform advanced laparoscopy for pelvic disorders and the first doctor to perform IVF/ICSI. His patients benefit from his extraordinary ability to perform advanced operative laparoscopic gynecologic surgery, hysteroscopies, HSG's, tubal reinastamosis, intra-uterine inseminations and ultimately, in-vitro fertilization.

What makes him unique in the field is that he also provides comprehensive gynecological care for those patients who need a gynecological workup and do not currently have a gynecologist. He and his laboratory director and embryologist, Eva Ulehlova, are constantly learning and instituting new techniques, protocols and medications to give his IVF patients their highest chance of success.

Dr. Ramirez belongs to several reputable organizations, including:

•The American Society of Reproductive Medicine
•The California Medical Association
•The American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists
•The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
•The American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists

Philosophy

I am as a physician and a former infertility patient myself, committed to each patient, offering support, information and counseling as well as the latest technological procedures to make the treatment experience as rewarding and positive as possible. Because my wife and I went through infertility, I realize that the process of resolving infertility can be a difficult and trying one. I hope through this blog and through the work I do at my clinic to minimize any confusion or frustration by thoroughly discussing all procedures, answering questions, and offering advice to women and men who need support.
